Aubrey’s Dream

Posted in Mommy Journal tagged , at 6:13 pm by timin525

I am pretty sure this dream was inspired by our game of Candyland last night.

Aubrey came up to me this morning and told me that she had a dream. About once a week she tells me about her dreams, but I rarely remember to write them down. This time I am remembering.

She dreamed that she had a family of real gingerbread men. Real in that they were able to move around and talk. There were 14 of them. They hopped into her hands and she put them in a paper bag. She put a piece of paper on top of them so the little ones could not jump out. She also told me that she put a fan in the bag so that they would have air to breathe. And in her dream she told me about her gingerbread family.

Norah Funny

Posted in Mommy Journal at 10:47 pm by timin525

While finishing up going to the bathroom last night, Norah called Tim in to help her get dressed.

“Daddy, hurry, hurry! There’s a ghost chasing me! He’s going to get my underwear!”

Norah’s Imaginary Friends

Wolfie – is a boy. He has a baby piggy. She is a girl. Wolfie sometimes hurts Norah and she can’t decide if she wants to be friends with him or not. I told her that if he is mean then maybe she should not play with him anymore.

Other friends – she does not remember their names, but they are all pigs. At one point one of their names was Ninca. She is inspired by “Uniqua” from Backyardigans.

I am pretty sure most of her friends are inspired by characters from Super Why and the Piglet movie.

Mommy Education

This is an actual dialogue that took place in my home this evening:

Location – the bathroom, as I was wiping Aubrey up after a bm

“Mommy, did you go to school to learn how to be a mommy?”

“No, babe.”

“So how do you know how to do this?”

“I just know, Aubrey. I just know.”

She just looked at me with a big grin, like I was the smartest person in the world. Now that is pure innocence!

Clara’s First Word

Posted in Mommy Journal tagged at 2:00 pm by timin525

Well, it’s really like her (mama, dada, drink, clara, thank you, dog, cat, ball, bye) tenth word, but it is super cute, so I have to write about it before I forget.

We were driving home from Eckert’s Saturday and Grandma Bea was talking to one of the older girls probably about apple pie and ice cream dessert. At the end of her statement, she said “okey dokey?” And without a second’s delay, Clara said “okey dokey!” It was the cutest thing and we all laughed for about a minute. It really sounded more like “kdydkdy,” but that’s close enough in my book.

Homeschool

Posted in Mommy Journal at 11:53 pm by timin525

I started homeschooling the girls this week. They are only pre-k, but I wanted to use this time to test the waters, so to speak. You know, give it a try before I have to start logging hours and making sure the girls are actually learning something. Plus I don’t think we can afford “real” pre-school.

So far I think it is going well. These are the highlights of the week:

Five minutes into it, Aubrey said, “Mommy, I am tired of learning! Are we taking a nap today?”

After telling her that we would be starting pre-school the next morning, Norah said, “Will my teachers be there? Will my friends be there?” in her Norah voice (she is OBSESSED with her teachers – ballet teachers, that is).

Aubrey – “Teacher mommy, are you our teacher?” And then she continued to call me teacher Mommy .

As we were heading to the van, Aubrey asked excitedly – “Is this our school bus?!”

So – I think we are going to have fun. I am excited about all the things I am finding to teach. And I do think the girls are excited about learning new things. We just need to get used to the routine and structure. Thankfully we are only doing Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will do some things, like the calendar and Bible verse everyday, but for now 2 days is all we (I) can handle.
